About

Un Nuevo Sol was founded in 2020 by literary activist/writer, Dr Nathalie Teitler and award-winning British Latinx poet/translator, Leo Boix. Latinx fiction writer Mónica Ibarra Parle and academic/writer Karina Lickorish Quinn joined in 2025 to complete the team. We have over 100 years of experience in the international literature sector between us, as well as many years of work in community development/ the youth sector. We are all multi-lingual and multi-cultural creatives who have lived on several continents. (see ‘The Team’ for more info). NSol has worked with a wide range of partners in the UK and United States including the Roundhouse, Southbank, Poetry Translation Centre, flipped eye publishing, Tate, Magma, Forward Foundation, Poetry School, Letras Latinas (US) and many more.

It was founded as a response to the complete lack of British Latinx writers at any mainstream UK literature festivals/events. The British Latinx community is one of the fastest growing in the UK (and the 8th largest in London). We felt that these writers deserved a voice and a platform. We also believed that their writing would enrich British and global literature. After years of waiting for something to happen, we decided to take action ourselves. In 2018 we set up a community development programme called ‘Invisible Presence’ (funded by ACE). It culminated in a sold-out multi-lingual showcase at the Roundhouse. Thisplanted a seed and led to the formation of Un Nuevo Sol, the first organisation to promote and nurture British Latinx writers & to build international links with Latin American and Latinx writers. In 2020 we published the first major anthology of British Latinx writers In English, described by Bernardine Evaristo as invigorating British and global literature.

We have lots of great national and international work planned for the future. If you are a British Latinx writer and want support/advice, use the contact page and we will see what we can offer! We can’t wait to meet you.
