What can we do for you?
If you are an individual:
- You can attend writers’ salons/meet ups for free and become part of a community of Latinx/Latin American writers. There are two different salons- the Tacos talleres run by Jose Buera and the NSol salons run by Director, Nathalie Teitler. We will also be organising meet ups.
- You can find information about Latinx and Latin American events/publications, great courses, bursaries and job opportunities in the UK on our event page
- If you are a published writer, literary translator or an experienced performer you can be added to our Directory-the only complete directory of UK based Latinx and Latin American writers and translators.
- You can get reduced rates for our events and workshops
- You could be included in our readings and events
- Members of the team are available for (paid) mentoring which is done at the standard Arts Council England recommended rates. We cover fiction, non-fiction and poetry with prize winning and highly experienced mentors. Please contact us for further details. Mentoring is also available for non-Latinx writers who want to work within a wider global framework.
If you are an organisation/local council:
- We offer consultancy advice in how to increase your British Latinx/Lat Am audience, or advise on writers who might be suitable for your event. We have worked with the Poetry Translation Centre, Modern Poetry in Translation, British Library and many more in this capacity.
- You can find a directory of professional writers in every genre on the directory page and we can help you get in touch, or make suggestions.
- We can organise Latinx/Latin American events/ workshops and even festivals for you with a highly experienced team. In addition to Latinx writers, we can source the highest quality musicians/dancers/DJs. We can also produce global majority events with Black and Asian writers.
- If you are a school with a large number of British Latinx students, we can organise culturally appropriate and stimulating assemblies and workshops.

British Latinx writers (British-Latin American)
What is the difference between British Latinx and British-Latin American?
Both have Latin American and British heritage. The largest waves of immigration/exile from Latin American countries occurred in the 1970s. These writers often continue to write in Spanish/Portuguese/Abya Yila languages, rather than English and will define themselves as Latin American. British Latinx writers will often include English with all of the languages above. Some are 2nd or even 3rd generation immigrants and may not speak Spanish/Portuguese/Abya Yila languages. Some writers prefer to go by British Latine.
UNS respects ALL British Latinx and British-Latin American and BritishLatine writers, irrespective of the language they write in.
What is the current size of the British Latinx/Latin American community?
2024 similar in size to British South Asian community in 2000, but only just beginning to appear on the census.
This may be because it is an incredibly diverse community covering every ethnic background and multiple different languages. Unlike Black British, or British South Asian they cannot be visually identified but the cultural heritage is equally strong.

Un Nuevo Sol is building a global community of Latin American and Latinx writers by bringing these three points together. We believe that this will enrich both British Latinx writers and the public and provide the biggest possible audience for British Latinx writers around the world.
